Real products. Live experiments. Built with AI.
A lot of what we build for commercial clients sits behind strict non-disclosure agreements, protected by private APIs and closed systems.
That is why we build and launch public products and open experiments from our Dorset studio. These live applications serve as transparent proof of capability: demonstrating what happens when twenty years of digital design, operational experience, and modern AI engineering come together for businesses across the UK and worldwide.
From Independent Music Promotion to AI Product: The DJ Promo Kit Story
How running one of the UK's leading electronic music brands led to designing an AI platform that helps the next generation of DJs launch their careers.
The Promoter's Perspective
HSWRK • 10+ Years Club EventsFor over a decade, alongside building software and digital products, co-founding and running HSWRK—one of the South Coast's most respected house music event brands—meant producing sold-out club nights, daytime terrace parties, and boutique festival stages.
Running an active event brand gave us first-hand, unfiltered exposure to the daily operational headaches of modern music booking: sorting through dozens of artist submissions, chasing broken SoundCloud links, and reading biographies that read like essays.
We weren't looking at the music industry as an outside software agency trying to find a niche. We were living the problem every single week.
The Problem Promoters Face
Messy Links • Lost Gigs • Broken DMsPromoters and club talent buyers receive hundreds of unsolicited artist messages every single week across Instagram, WhatsApp, and email.
Almost all of them arrive as fragmented clutter: expired Dropbox folders, unplayable audio files, sprawling unedited essays, or generic link aggregators that bury the music. Promoters give an outreach message about 20 seconds before moving on.
Dozens of genuinely talented young DJs were getting overlooked not because their sets lacked quality, but because their promotional presentation created friction. They needed a clean, focused, professional Electronic Press Kit (EPK).
Chords: Zero-Latency Harmonic Arranger & Live Looper
How an open experiment built to break producer writer's block evolved into a tactile, zero-latency Web Audio workstation for instant chord progression discovery and MIDI export.
The Producer Bottleneck
Blank Piano Rolls • Clunky DAWs • Creative FrictionEvery music producer knows the paralysis of staring at an empty 8-bar loop in Ableton or Logic. When inspiration strikes, the last thing you want is a 45-second plugin loading screen, clumsy mouse-clicking in piano rolls, or digging through static MIDI packs that lack human feel.
Most non-keyboardists understand harmonic emotion intuitively—they know when they want a nostalgic Neo-Soul chord, a melancholic minor lift, or an uplifting gospel resolution—but translating that into fingerings across 88 keys on a MIDI controller creates immediate cognitive overhead.
Existing web tools either suffer from sluggish audio buffer latency, poor keyboard ergonomics, or lack any bridge back into professional studio production environments.
Audio Craft & Tactile UX
Web Audio API • QWERTY Ergonomics • Instant MIDIWe built Chords as an ultra-responsive, zero-latency in-browser harmonic scratchpad. Built on Tone.js and the modern Web Audio API, it pairs a multi-sampled Salamander grand piano with a synthesized 4-on-the-floor metronome engine running at 60fps tick-accurate synchronization.
The breakthrough is in the tactile QWERTY mapping: your computer keyboard's home row plays root notes (A–J), while the bottom row dynamically switches harmonic moods and color extensions—instantly morphing triads into lush Major 9ths, rich Minor 7ths, ethereal Sus4s, or tense Diminished voicings with zero music theory friction.
With a live 4-bar looping lane, producers can jam ideas in real time, adjust clip positions, and with a single click, export polyphonic Standard MIDI files straight into their DAW.
AirRoutes: Real-Time Geodesic Aviation Network & Radar Visualizer
How an engineering challenge to map commercial flight connectivity across the UK and Europe evolved into a zero-latency, spherical Great-Circle radar visualizer and automated web scraper.
The Fragmentation of Flight Telemetry
Gated APIs • Disjointed Schedules • Mercator DistortionsCommercial airline route intelligence is notoriously locked behind expensive enterprise paywalls, rate-limited GDS gateways, or buried in bloated static timetables. For digital product teams looking to build rich travel discovery interfaces or route intelligence tools, commercial data licensing fees create immediate friction.
Compounding the data challenge is spatial distortion: naive mapping platforms draw flight paths as flat straight lines across standard 2D Mercator projections. This fundamentally warps reality—transatlantic flights, Nordic routes, and cross-continental trajectories appear unnatural, distorting actual flight distances and spatial relationships.
Furthermore, rendering thousands of dynamic flight vectors and interactive hub blips in a web browser frequently causes severe DOM lag, bloated bundle sizes, and choppy 15fps panning.
Algorithmic Geometry & Open Telemetry
522 Commercial Hubs • 11,839 Direct Routes • Spherical TrigonometryWe built AirRoutes to prove that high-density geospatial applications can be fast, visually rich, and run without costly recurring map API fees. We built an automated Python scraping engine that harvests open aviation telemetry and live passenger route tables into an optimized European route graph of 522 commercial hubs and 11,839 verified direct routes.
Instead of flat Euclidean lines, AirRoutes calculates authentic Great-Circle spherical geodesics using the Haversine formula and spherical linear interpolation. Each flight path is computed dynamically in the browser, rendering the true curved orbital trajectory of aircraft across Earth's curvature.
By pairing an ultra-clean Leaflet canvas with custom radar styling, glowing SVG dash animations, and Gzip-deflated JSON payloads, the application delivers fluid 60fps interaction with sub-50ms search and zero third-party API bills.
Why We Build in the Open
Studio Labs is where we explore real-time browser APIs, web audio, and geospatial interfaces. Building tools like AirRoutes, Chords, and DJ Promo Kit lets us test performance, responsiveness, and data resilience under real user demand before applying those same techniques to commercial client systems.
